Frequently Asked Questions

  • What type of bobbin does my machine use?
There are over 85 different bobbins, so the answer to that question depends on the brand and model of the machine. Contact us and we will let you know the specific bobbin that you need. They are often different, even within a specific brand.
  • How often should I have my machine professionally cleaned?
It’s a good general rule to have your machine professionally services about every 18 months. However, that depends on how the amount of use and the types of fabrics that are being sewn. Some fabrics shed very little lint, while other (like flannel) shed quite a bit.
Keep in mind that a good professional maintenance will include cleaning AND lubricating. Normal user maintenance does not include removing the covers applying new/fresh oil and grease to the internal components.
Think of it like changing the oil in your car. Every so often, you need to replace the lubricant. It’s the same concept with sewing machines. There are a lot of moving parts in your sewing machine that need to be lubricated.
  • Someone gave me a machine and it just doesn’t seem to sew right. Can you help with that?
Absolutely. We will give it a routine checkup, cleaning/lubricating it and performing common adjustments like checking the tension, etc. Although we don’t offer sewing classes, we may be able to offer some general tips on how to get the most out of your specific machine.
  • How long does it take to get my machine serviced?
That depends on our workload at the time you drop it off, but we can usually complete the maintenance/repair within a week. That also depends on if we need to order parts.
When our volume is high, we prefer to schedule an appointment so that you are not without your machine any longer than necessary.
  • I have a lot of extra parts (pressure feet, etc.) for my machine. How many of the accessories do you need to repair my machine?
Great question! We need the machine, a zigzag pressure foot, the power cable and the pedal. We prefer that you NOT bring any other attachments unless they are relevant to the specific problem requiring our service.
  • How long do you warranty your work?
We warranty our work for 30 days from the date of the repair. However, we do not warranty parts, as those would be covered by the part manufacturer’s warranty.
For example, if we service/repair your machine, you take it home and start sewing and something goes wrong. You hit a pin and the machine stops sewing, etc. Bring the machine back to us and we will diagnose the problem for free, regardless of what happened.
